The Early Life of Augustus

Augustus was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BC, in Rome. His father was a wealthy equestrian, and his mother was Atia, a niece of Julius Caesar. Augustus was a sickly child, but he was blessed with a strong mind and a determination to succeed.

At the age of 18, Augustus joined Caesar's army and fought in the Gallic Wars. He quickly distinguished himself as a brave and capable officer. In 44 BC, Caesar was assassinated, and Augustus became his adopted son and heir.
