Dyson begins by laying out the historical context of racism in the United States, from the days of slavery to the present day. He shows how racism has been embedded in every aspect of American society, from its laws and institutions to its culture and media.

Dyson then turns his attention to the present day, examining the recent rise in white nationalism and hate crimes. He argues that these events are a symptom of a deeper problem—the failure of Americans to fully confront their racist past.

Dyson believes that the only way to heal the wounds of racism is to confront them head-on. He calls on Americans to acknowledge the reality of racism and its devastating impact on Black lives. He also calls for reparations for the centuries of slavery and discrimination that Black people have endured.

Rise Up is a powerful and necessary book that offers a roadmap for healing and reconciliation. Dyson's call for Americans to confront their racist past and work towards a more just future is a message that we all need to hear.
