Alan Bristow was born in 1923 and developed a passion for aviation at a young age. He served as a pilot during World War II before starting his own helicopter company in 1955. Bristow Helicopter Services grew to become one of the world's leading helicopter operators, with a fleet of over 500 aircraft and a global presence.
Bristow retired from his company in 1997 and received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to aviation. He was knighted in 2001 for his services to the industry.
